And that is what our students learn here: to pay attention and not to neglect their bodies, to honor it every day with the beautiful movements of Pilates Exercises as a ritual dance in selfdiscovery, contemplation and gratitude for their bodies.Their posture improves, and so does their attitude in their lives. They feel stronger, more confident and happier with themselves for finding quality in their workouts and communicating with their bodies!

Jamie Hearn

Jami’s lifetime love of sports and being active led to her love of working out, and exploring everything the human body is capable of in motion and movement. From ballet, soccer, softball, track, distance running, weight training, gymnastics and swimming, she inevitably had a couple related injuries, and she discovered that Pilates cured her chronic knee and neck pain when other methods didn’t work. Influenced by Katia’s instruction and starting off as a student at the Pilates Room, she has recently finished her Stott Pilates Mat, Reformer and Cadillac, Chair and Barrel training, and is now happily apprentice teaching here and at the YMCA while preparing for her exams.

Pilates has become a way of life for Jami, and she feels inspired to share with others the amazing benefits of incorporating this multi-faceted work into their fitness routines. It’s not just exercise to help you lose weight and tone, it corrects posture imbalances you didn’t even know you had, noticeably increases flexibility, and rehabilitates the spine like no other work out can. Because every body is different and Pilates provides great modifications for overcoming most physical challenges, Jami enjoys helping each and every client reach their fitness and health goals. And because it requires a unique mental focus, Pilates is a mind-body exercise that will bring you a better awareness, connection and understanding of your own body. She invites you to give Pilates a try if you are curious, you may just find yourself hooked on how great you look and feel!

Ashley Carmichael

Ashley’s lifetime fascination with human movement led her to the practice of Pilates.
She was a cheerleader and gymnast throughout her childhood, always testing the boundaries of her physical abilities.  As she got older, she realized the flexibility in her body decreased dramatically and her love of physical movement was still very strong, but didn’t have an outlet to express this passion. Eventually, she found Pilates.  Not only did this practice increase her flexibility once again, but it became a new means to communicate her appreciation for movement.

She admires the practice of Pilates not only for the increased flexibility, strength, and toning qualities, but also for its ability to assist in rehabilitating injuries and correct postural deviances.  She believes the mental focus required in Pilates also adds to the uniqueness of the exercise, and everyone can benefit from it.  To her, Pilates is not just a fitness routine, it’s a lifestyle that brings awareness to our everyday lives.  She feels blessed that teaching Pilates is her career, and the opportunity to help people change their physical and mental fitness is a huge reward.
